Privacy Policy

TideBite · Effective June 22, 2026

The short version: TideBite has no accounts and no logins. We don’t sell your data, we don’t use advertising or cross-app tracking, and your trip log stays on your own device. We use your location only to show you local fishing conditions.

Who we are

TideBite (“the app,” “we,” “us”) is a fishing-conditions app that provides tide predictions, marine and weather forecasts, a Bite Score, and related planning tools. You can reach us at ryan@getliquidrails.com.

Location

If you allow it, we use your device’s location (or a ZIP/town you enter) to find the nearest tide station, buoy, and forecast for where you’re fishing. Your location is used to make data requests to the public weather and tide services listed below and to display results — it is not stored on our servers and is not linked to any identity.

Your trip log and saved spots

Trips you log (including notes, catch details, companions, and charter/guide reviews) and your saved spots are stored locally on your device using your browser’s storage. We do not transmit or store this information on our servers. Clearing the app’s website data, or removing the app, will delete it. If we add optional account-based cloud sync in the future, we will update this policy first and make it opt-in.

Usage analytics

We collect basic, privacy-friendly usage counts to understand how the app is used (for example: app opens, when a location is set, or which features are tapped). This data is aggregate and anonymous — it contains no names, no accounts, no precise location, and no advertising identifiers, and we do not use cookies for tracking.

Third-party data sources

To show live conditions, the app requests data directly from public and third-party services. When it does, your approximate coordinates are sent to that service so it can return local data:

NOAA / National Weather Service — tides, forecasts, marine alerts, buoy data (U.S. government, public domain)
Open-Meteo — UV index, sea-surface temperature, wave height
OpenStreetMap / Nominatim — map tiles and place/ZIP lookups
Windy — radar, wind, wave and ocean map layers
Wikipedia — species reference photos and information

These services have their own privacy practices, which we don’t control.

Children

TideBite is intended for a general audience and is not directed at children under 13. We do not knowingly collect personal information from children.

Your choices

You can deny or revoke location permission in your device settings; the app still works if you enter a ZIP or town instead.
You can delete your trips and saved spots at any time within the app, or by clearing the app’s website data.

Changes to this policy

We may update this policy as the app evolves (for example, if we add accounts, push notifications, or payments). We’ll revise the “Effective” date above and, for material changes, note them in the app.

Safety note

TideBite is a planning aid, not a safety or navigation device. Always check official marine warnings and use sound judgment before heading out on the water.
